How A Salt Water Pool System Works
When a salt pool chlorinator system is used, salt is added to the water which is then passed through a cell that subjects it to electrolysis. The result is production of chlorine gas which immediately dissolves into the water. It eliminates the chloramines produced by manual pool chlorine and the uncomfortable side effects associated with them. The sanitizer is produced within the water itself. It can be measured using the same testing methods employed by manual chlorine pools. A simple adjustment to the system will increase or decrease sanitizer level. The salt is not consumed in the system. It is re-used, with additional salt being necessary only for salt loss through overflow, splash out, leaks, etc. Water becomes a very mild saline solution, only 1/12th as salty as ocean water. This level of salt can barely be tasted. It does not cause corrosion or any other damage to equipment.
